"The Pulp and Paper Industry - What do you see?"
The Pulp and Paper sector has been struggling with the reputation of being an antiquated, unsophisticated sunset industry. But there is the opportunity for a bright future ahead. Given the environmental and efficiency improvements many mills have made, and the value proposition the new carbon economy is providing, the opinion of our industry is changing, slowly.
Our industry is well positioned to benefit from new markets for renewable materials. In addition, the legacy products the pulp industry has made have a good future, and still represent the best alternative for wood residuals. Given the strong financial base of the industry, we have an opportunity to explore pathways to further fractionate wood into products beyond pulp, paper and green electrical energy.
At Canfor Pulp, the experience gained from working to create advanced biofuels from pulpmill streams are providing a prospective of the market potential and challenges that exist in further reinventing our industry.
